The Nordic Heritage Center

Snow moving operations

28 Jan 2016 9:13 AM | Anonymous

Attention Nordic Heritage Center enthusiasts: snow moving operations will begin at the facility tomorrow to prepare the stadium and competition loops for the upcoming World Cup Biathlon. Heavy equipment will be traveling into and around the facility until further notice. It would be best to access the trail system via the Fort Fairfield road trail head. Be aware that heavy equipment may be accessing the biathlon competition loops (Fort Fairfield 3K Loop) so use caution. Trail conditions on the competition loops will be variable at best due to these operations. Trail conditions on the remainder of the trails system are good. Thanks, be safe, and have fun out there.

Human Powered Snow Locomotion! The World Cup Biathlon Organizing Committee (OC) needs help getting natural snow onto the competition loops. The 3.3 Fort Fairfield loop has good cover but the steeper sections of the 2.5 and 2.0 loops could use some snow. The OC is gathering folks at 9 am this Saturday at the Nordic Heritage Center. If you want to go on your own, snow scoops work great and tarps and shovels are also a good option for moving snow from the side of the trails onto the grooming area. Any help would be appreciated. Be aware of the heavy equipment moving snow to the stadium today. Thanks!
